Beloved Beauty Salon Blog

Two of the most common questions we hear at our salon in International City are “Should I get a hair spa?” and “Do I need a protein treatment?” Both make hair feel better, but they solve different problems. Here is how to tell which one your hair needs.

Quick Answer

Choose a hair spa for hair that feels dry, dull or rough but is still strong. Choose a protein treatment for hair that breaks easily, feels limp or has been weakened by colour, bleach or heat.

What Is a Hair Spa?

A hair spa is a nourishing, relaxing treatment. It usually includes a wash, a conditioning mask, a scalp and head massage, and steam to help the mask soak in. At Beloved, we use a hair steamer during our hair spa treatments.

A hair spa is best for hair that feels dry, dull, rough or tired, but is not breaking. It is also a lovely way to relax.

We offer several hair spa options, including Classic, Fruit, Organic Aloe Vera, Kera-Protein, Collagen, Caviar and Japanese hair spa. Our team will suggest the one that suits your hair.

What Is a Protein Treatment?

A protein treatment is a repair treatment. It helps rebuild strength in hair that has been weakened by colouring, bleaching, heat styling or chemical straightening.

A protein treatment is best for hair that breaks easily, feels limp or stretchy when wet, or has lots of split ends. Learn more on our Protein Hair Treatment page.

A Quick Way to Check Your Hair

If your hair...It usually needs...
Feels dry and rough but is strongHair spa
Looks dull and lacks shineHair spa
Snaps or breaks when you brush itProtein treatment
Has been bleached or coloured many timesProtein treatment
Is weak and also very dryProtein first, then hair spa visits

This is only a guide. Your stylist will check your hair at consultation and recommend what is right for you.

Can You Have Both?

Yes. Many clients with coloured hair have a protein treatment to rebuild strength, then regular hair spa visits to keep hair soft and shiny. Too much protein can make hair feel stiff, so it is best to follow your stylist’s advice on timing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I have a hair spa?

Many clients enjoy one every two to four weeks, especially in Dubai’s dry, air-conditioned environment.

Is a protein treatment the same as keratin?

No. Protein rebuilds strength inside the hair; keratin smooths frizz on the surface. Ask us which suits your hair.

Can I have a hair spa after colouring?

Yes. It helps colour-treated hair stay soft. Ask us how long to wait after your colour appointment.
